Without freedom, no art; art lives only on the restraints it imposes on itself, and dies of all others. - Albert Camus

In the beginning, there was fire. Much later someone cooked up fireworks. We began to imagine we could scatter our hungry ghosts with the sound of our fury and light up the empty space with our hopes. You might say this is just bad poetry on my part. It is history. The next step was gunpowder. Our eyes are bigger than our stomachs.

We are all mad scientists. We are all suicide bombers.
How else to explain our nuclear powers?

We don’t need to look for a place to stop.
Wherever we are, before it’s too late, is as good a place as any.

nice new shots….very precise and professional.

I liked different things on the first shot:
1-the meeting between the red light and the green smoke gave a nice effect.
2-the person on the picture added some vagueness.
    i think its a firework?
i think its a nice work

    2nd picture:
very nice matching between the colors…nice moon and scary dark clouds…amazing.

    3rd picture:
it is real nice professional thinking by professional hands…
i think on my humble opinion that if the picture was more concentrated arount the water spot with less space around it ..it would be nicer…but at the end it is still realy nice.
    i like this professional shots.
    keep it up.
    kind regards

    Hello Sam and MiGo :)

Thank you both very much for your kind reviews! I liked hearing your thoughts about the third photo, Sam. I very rarely/almost never crop my pictures. I always try to work with them just as they are. When I’m sorting through them I try to decide whether they “say” anything or not and if I think they do then I look for any other pictures that seem to be “talking” about the same thing. Then, I write something that I hope can “stitch” them all together.

In answer to your question, MiGo; the best way to catch one great picture is to take as many pictures as you can ;)

I suppose you could say that I use a camera like a notebook, and that’s so much easier to do with a digital camera!

At the art college I studied photography quite intensively in my first year. Not only did we learn how to make pictures the *old-fashioned way *(with chemicals in darkrooms), but we also learned how to use our eyes and the available light to take good pictures in the first place. The more skill you employ when you snap the shutter, the less time you have to waste in a darkroom.

I feel the same way about digital photography. Anyone can learn to edit and filter their photos with software and of course, that is also an art, like painting. Nevertheless, I think the real magic happens when you ‘catch’ a moment in time in some way that is perfect just the way it is.

    Thanks for stopping by, fellas!

    :)

Oh, nice pictures. They look like screen shots from a science-fiction movie :)
-First picture: aliens attacked our planet with their super weapon ;)
-Second one: I feel the frightening silent of the night after the battle.
-Third picture: Disaster that aliens brought us.
Really nice pictures, I like them.

Great pictures! A piture is worth a thousand words.

The first picture the contrast of the darkness and brightness give us a very strong impression.

It show us the people’s pursuit of brightness out of darkness.

The second picture show us the beauty of moonlight.

The third picture is the perfect combination between soft water and hard rock.

These pictures are so nice. You must be a great photographer!! Is the first picure really fireworks?? It looks like war. I love second picture the best. When I looked the picture, I remembered my country. I used to see moon with my family often. I think third picture proves you are real artist. Most people usually don’t care about puddles. You must have been struck by the puddle, so you took this picture, right? If I find puddles, I will never impress. But your picture impressed me!!

    Hello Franie and Haruka! :)

Thank you both for stopping by to say hello!

Yes, the first picture was actually taken at a friend’s birthday party. :) I’m really glad I could give you a happy reminder of your country and being with your family, Haruka. :)

It’s true! I notice both the puddles and the clouds and everything in between! Everything has something to say to us … I believe.

    Hello Babak! :)

Thank you so much. I see God in the moon too … too bright to see/understand directly from where we are now, so we look at reflections of God instead, and the clouds come and go.

I’m glad you enjoyed them. You read and write like a poet ;) . Thanks for stopping in!

Both your pictures and your writing seem very philosophic to me..
I like them, I can’t reckon the exact meaning, though.. I add your website to my favorites.. ^^

    Hi Elley :)

I think it’s quite true to say that artists are always interested in philosophy of one sort or another. I don’t think my work has an exact meaning. I hope it means different things to different people. Even my own understanding of it changes over time if I come back to think about it again. I don’t suppose it’s really “my” work anyway. I feel like I am a kind of radio receiver that picks up signals and sends them out again. Sometimes I wonder about it and sometimes I think I can explain it.

    Art is like that ;)

Thank you for checking in :)

    …after all,must say something..
am i the latest one?well..i have to say..Robin!~i really want that camera!how could you do that?they’re amazing!i am desperately need a digital camera!
but about the pictures,i’m really amateur..
arts have no definitions,as long as you like it,it will be worth it.No matter what it is,it’s just the master piece of your own!:-)

    Hello Sheane :)

You are the latest one but hopefully not the last one …

It’s a great camera. We shopped around and tried the latest Fuji but we were happier with this one (Nikon P5100).

I bet all you need is more practice ;)

Your definition of art is perfect. Art has no definitions. I like that a lot. Thank you, Sheane. :)

    Hi, Robin.

Thank You for showing your pictures.
I think if the 1st picture is light made by human, the 2nd picture may say a light made by GOD. God’s creation give me peace mind whenever I see.
I wander If you get a picture as a light of the life, how to get a picture.
    Try Robin!

    very nice pictures!!

    Hello Choi :)

Thank you for spending your time looking at my pictures.

I really like this train of thought you’re on about light, light filtered by human design and the light of creation. I wonder if it’s possible to catch this other kind of light you’re talking about with a camera …?

    I’ll keep trying ;)

    Thank you Choi :)

Hello Eun, Adriana and Daniel! :)

You are all such sensitive and thoughtful people. Thank you for your high praise.

It is a delight to share this with all of you, but it is even sweeter to hear what you all think and feel about it. :)

We can’t say for sure what art IS, but we may be able to say what it ISN’T … “If it isn’t making someone laugh, cry, smile or think, then it’s not art.” … ;)
